Most vo2max test are done with almost or maximum strain, but there are some test that are done with very little strain like the walking test. I personally think that the highly strenous test are more accurate, at least my results with seem a lot more accurate with a coopers test than the walking test.

Study About Fitness: Women Are Better Athletes Than Men

It doesn't quite even things out though. For example, the 'average" 10 stone guy of similar age will usually out perform the 10 stone girl when training load and motivation is the same. Any advantage of oxygen uptake will 'usually' be countered with the males advantage in muscle mass and the competitive edge that testosterone provides.
But I look forward to the day where things are athletically equal! I think Katie Taylor would hand it to many male professional boxers.....

Beating average males won't prove shieeet.
It's like saying Elane Thompson would beat most males in a sprint race.
Yeah, she definitely would.
However, there are 15 year old males who run faster times than Elane Thompson, the best female sprint athlete.
Males are superior, I mean, you don't need science to prove this shieeet, you just need common sense and to look at the records (facts).

What say you?
For the study, which was very small, researchers recruited nine young males and 9 females, all roughly in their mid-20s.
I think we're advanced enough and smart enough (if you have an academic brain) to recognize, understand, and digest emprical data to make our own judgements/conclusions from it.

We may well see things near as dammit even up in our lifetimes. Who knows?

The further you go back the gaps appear larger. Granted, it is a bit arduous searching, but why not try and pick an event and compare the differences between the sexes pre WW2 and 2016!
There are no shortage of articles pointing out a closing gap.

But hell; I've got no agenda. If anyone feels that men are making the gap wider they are entitled to that opinion. I don't have the stomach to compile a major statistical analysis. Ha ha....
On a personal level I've seen things become closer in the years that I've been involved in amateur sport. You can point to greater infrastructure and coaching.....but bottom line is things are looking great for the ladies of the future. Might we see things evening up in our lifetimes? I'm not sure, but I think it'll get closer over the decades.....
