    Head Movement

    Okay,is the quality of your head movement based on your reflexes?

    Because usually I always get hit on my way in and when I am on the inside I reset back to the outside because I just want to be good with my head movement,but that stuff never works. My reflexes are straight up garbage,so is that the reason?

    I see three types of head movement. Guys who always move their head to create a hard to hit target or guys that only use it when engaging to avoid counters or guys who only use it when they see their opponent ready to throw.

    Im not so sure that it has to do with reflexes, but if you have stiff, slow movements it could certainly make you a more hitable target. Even then you can roll with punches that you are positive you cant avoid.

      Guys who only use it when they see their opponent ready to throw. I use this on my way in,but

      I am also Nr.2:
      Guys who use it when they don't want to be countered. I mostly throw my combination on the inside and move my head because more often than not,the guy will hit back and I counter the counter

        When you're on the inside learn the reaction and how the opponent throws he punches. Dont just do any head movement although any head movement is better than none. Learn how to slip outside or inside his shot but make sure your set at all times. Balance is key beacuse theres no sense in making him miss on the inside if you dont make him pay.

          On the inside. Study Robert Duran. He didn't necessarily move his head a lot but he positioned his opponent and used a combination of clinching and wrestling to avoid being hit. It also moved his opponents arms and body so the opponent was vulnerable to Durans punches.

                He did a pretty good job keeping his head in someones chest negating their range. Once he got up to middleweight though that went away, the length and reach advantage he was giving up became to much.

                  It takes skill man, its hard to move forward or back with your feet, while moving your head and punching. Its hard enough to pat your head and rub your belly. lol! Thats why it takes a truly skilled athlete that can do it all.

                    A lot of head movement is more training the body to move a certain way, than it is reflexes.

                    If you train to throw punches and automatically squat down after, or move your head after, that's what youll do in the ring.

                    Your not actually seeing a lot of those punches coming that you slide or duck under.

                    For instance, if you watch Floyds famous lead right hand, duck under the left hook. The duck is automatic. He doesn't see the left hook, his body just automatically moves that way because he trained to do that.

                    If that makes sense.

                    It takes years and a lot of reps, I didn't start doing that stuff well until my 3rd or 4th year boxing.
