  • Sparring Partners "Foster Position"

When your sparring partners cover their face in a peakaboo and squat down not throwing punches back, what does that mean?

I usually just back off when they do and I do not know what it does, but why do they do it?

Is it some defensive strategy I don't know?

Some people do it to get a better look before they throw and getting ready for a counter, while some will do that and come forward to get inside.

So I am using the right strategy in backing off so I don't get countered?

First time I saw that I thought he wanted out so I dropped my hands and backed off then I got hit with a 1-2 which I thought was dirty. Now whether deliberate or not, I see it as a desperate and primal move. So I expect them to take a few shots on the guard and then start swinging violently. You have to be aware and bait those violent punches and counter them.

If you see an opening to the body, take it, but also keep your guard way up.

I do punch the body, but they usually just make grunting sounds and don't hit back. My favourite combination is a right hook to the body, uppercut to the head. either that or I just hit the uppercuts (I feel like this is my favourite punch, not nescarrily my best)

High guard can be used for many things, it just depends on what else theyre doing. I like to counter out of it personally.

You should get used to defending yourself at all times though. Thats a bad habit not to have.
