I ran into this same problem too, and i chose a set of Hayabusa gloves. Under 100 dollars, and extra wrist support along with that.

For what it's worth I learned to box by using the "gloves on the shelf" approach.

That's all we had but we made do. Hunger and desire trumps all.

I actually just tested out the Winning gloves and I have to admit they are pretty good. I like the feel much better than Everlast.

This is an old thread but most of the stuff in here is terrible advice.

Gloves don't make a fighter. Unless you are getting paid professionally don't spend a tremendous amount.

A decent pair of Ringside gloves will hold up just fine. Just make sure to always wrap your hands for extra protection.
