For what it's worth I learned to box by using the "gloves on the shelf" approach.
That's all we had but we made do. Hunger and desire trumps all.Comment

This is an old thread but most of the stuff in here is terrible advice.
Gloves don't make a fighter. Unless you are getting paid professionally don't spend a tremendous amount.
A decent pair of Ringside gloves will hold up just fine. Just make sure to always wrap your hands for extra protection.Comment
