  • Broken finger

    Hi all need some advice.

Have an amateur fight at the end of September penned in.

I'd literally just started full training when last week, I broke my left index finger, it's a stable fracture, but it's very swollen and painful. The people at the hospital were very busy and so simply tied my two fingers together and sent me on my way.

    I'm really not sure
    1. How long I have to have my fingers tied together
    2. What sort of training I can do
    3. How long it's going to be until I can return to full training.

I have the option to postpone until December...but that's not ideal.

Any advice would be great. This is my first broken bone so I'm lost.

That's not busy, that's all they do for a broken finger, splint it against the next one.

I learnt that after a 3 hour wait in A&E so the next time I did it, I splint it myself and heeled fine.

Which hand, work on jabs, lead hooks' lead uppercuts if the rear and vice versa if the front. Sit-ups footwork drills, head movement drills, sprints/road work etc for the next week. If you are still in pain in another week, talk to your coach, but you will be surprised how much swelling and bruising can reduce in a week. Fingers and toes heel very quickly compared to other parts of the body

I broke a finger myself, healed up pretty quick, but I had to stay away from using it. Really depends on how bad your break really is.
