  • Choosing class due to height and weight

I'm just starting tomorrow have very little experience. I'm 142lbs and 5feet 9 inches. Been out of the fitness game for about 3 months should I try to lose weight bc I'm strong for my size, so that's my dillema
    Any advice would be great!!

dont worry about weight class at the moment

Like you say, you have no experience, listen to your coach, practice your technique. That is the most and only things you need to worry about for the moment, I would be very worried if your coach is gonna stick you in a proper fight within a few months if you have zero experience. Listen, take on critique and learn

After a good few months you will start to lose weight or gain lean muscle (providing you are training right, everyones body changes and adapts if they have never boxed before, no matter how cut you currently are or how outta shape) then and only then, will you need to start looking at weight category

Train and get into the best possible condition. Whatever weight you are at is your fighting weight.

Someone on here gave that advice a little while ago. If he says anything in this thread then count yourself lucky because he is one of the few people on the internet who know what they are talking about.

To be honest your frame is more telling. Look at Shawn Porter, hes like 5'5" and barely makes 147. Robert Easter on the other hand is like 5'11"-6ft and makes 135.

If you go to a local dietitian, they will measure your frame, bone density, and body fat to put your ideal weight into perspective. But boxing especially in this day and age is about having the size advantage, so Id probably go with your ideal weight -1 whole weight class.
