  • Experienced boxers please help

hi, I'm turning 18 in a few days and have been paid to fight in storage closets for almost 2 years now, I'm trying to make the transition to organized boxing because it's really taking a lot out of me. I really want positive and negative criticism so I can keep doing what I'm doing right in boxing and the old habits I've developed I can get rid of, the videos are below in links.

Get yourself to a recognised boxing gym and fast!!!!!

Not only is a coach going to break bad habits and give you pointers, but they have an address box of contacts to help you get exposure whilst staying safe and not fighting in storage lockers having our front teeth smashed in.

    On first glance:

Your chin is high and exposed. - When you throw your body shots both hands are by your side, a decent fighter will throw a shot straight at your face whilst blocking the incoming shot with their arm

You are not punching through the bag but stopping at point of impact

Nowhere near enough head movement - your head stays relatively static in one place

Work your way around the bag, go from range (distance) to in close, back to range. I know it is a bag, it doesnt punch back but you need to learn to go in and out, left to right, right to left, otherwise you will carry this habit into a fight

Get to a gym, get some guidance from a coach

      Follow your Dream
Look online for a boxing gym in your area.
It takes hard work, listening, and you gotta be consistent.
6-7 days a week of training.
      No more fighting in closets.
Start running miles per day and doing sprints.
      Goodluck

Doesn't look too bad tbh. Got some nice swing on the hooks for a beginner.

But seriously your technique is quite bad. Should have joined a boxing gym. So I advice you to go to one right now and you might actually end up being a decent amateur boxer if you put in the work.

Your punches seem to pack a wallop, but you have bad form. Correcting your form when throwing punches will increase your punching power. Also, you seem to have stamina issues so work on improving that... and i'd say it should be high up on your priorities list.

Thank you. What are people's opinions on bag size? If I'm 155lbs and using a 130 lb bag what will the effects be?

                    Cruel.....But good advice.

18 with not much of base boxing wise is 2 late be chasing that kind of dream, the most it will come to is a few medals in the amateurs.

I understand people on here giving advice, but you can't give advice to everyone and make kids think they are gonna be superstar boxers, they go into a gym and say they have experience cause a few lads on the forums said their good, they get thrown in with a boxer who's been boxing since their around 7-8 or younger and get smashed.

Everyone can't be a star, and kids can't be disillusioned into thinking they can make money from boxing.
Get a trade,a real job, if you like boxing do the best you can, people want to give advice work away,

but just remember the kid you tell who can't throw a punch properly, who's footwork is all over the place, who's chin is up in the air with no defence,
That same kid is going to think he can make money from boxing,go down to a gym,get smashed in numerous times, until they eventually realize they can't,and will find it hard to find work.

This isn't the 20s anymore, boxing is a lot more choosy of who it picks to make money, and besides all that, nowadays a good as in European Olympic, world class amateur good,is the only real route into paid professional boxing.
