  • Where the hell does Kovalevs power come from???

I mean nearly every single theory people have on power is disproved on Kovalev.

GGG has humongous forearms. Beterbiev has enormous legs and squats crazy amounts, he also has massive forearms and weight trains. But Kovalev......? Wtf.

I know people say you're born with it but still surely there has to be something.

It just doesn't make sense him having such power. No massive legs, no massive forearms, no big shoulders etc.

It's crazy. Anyone have an opinion or where the hell he gets his power from?

Mainly Technique: from head to toe how you twist your body will give you that extra pop to your punch + quick twist in your arm + knuckles down and landing the punch with your first two knuckles (no slaps) and you can tell and see boxers who has power naturally = a natural. if you have it ,you have it. if you don't, sucks.

the only way you can increase your power is mainly just working on your Technique. or increasing body mass = more Force. thats where weight advantage comes to play

also understanding distance where your reach is most effective. throwing a jab from the inside pocket would not be ideal because I jab is a long-range weapon it's like bringing a sniper into a raid it's not ideal. throwing a hook or uppercut from the inside would be more appropriate and using the jab from the outside would be more appropriate.

just keep working on your self and mind

      hope this help

He does have powerful front delts, even though he doesn't look over muscular. He's very flexible as well, and trunk flexibility really helps punching power. I felt a big difference when I got more flexible in the trunk back and shoulders. There are other big punchers who have a good trunk flexibility too, Nassem Hamed, Roy Jones, Mike Tyson. Golovkin does alot of flexibilty work too.

What is trunk flexibility and how do you get more flexible in it?

Physique has no correlation to punching power

I do alot of standing side bends, arms extended upwards and then you bend to the side, plenty of backbends, yoga type holds and also dynamic movements. Side twists and an exercise called landmines. You really feel an ability to throw the upper body behind your punches, also helps head movement. But yoga is a good start, as counter intuitive as it sounds.

Most fighters punch like they're swinging an axe, planting their feet and giving lots of warning to their opponent.

Kovalev tends to throw punches more like he's on horseback and lowering his lance on the target. He punches with the momentum of his whole body.

He's got a lanky build so its hard to see how much he's moving until you watch it in slow mo. He's always moving his entire body in the direction of an attack and his fists are the tips of the lance.

However when you face an evasive fighter, adopting that forward front foot pressure, switching gun Ho technique (although effective) is where you become unstuck. Look at the ward fight, now I'm not saying who won/lost as that's a completely different argument but the one thing everyone agrees with is the fight was close as ward's movement, slipperiness and ability to tie up Krusher, nullified his offence

he's clearly a big boned guy, he just looks huge in the ring despite not having bulging muscles. He's also got long ass arms which will allow him to get more torque on his punches.
