A normal hook is 90 degrees however many greats like RJJ and Sugar Ray Robinson use a much longer version with great success. It may even be the superior way to hook contrary to textbook advice.
My question is does the long hook have to be 135 degrees?
Or is a 170 degree hook arm almost outstretched just as likely to KO if it lands?
It SEEMS although im not sure that RJJ and others e.g. Morrison can make the long hook effective at 170 degrees which is almost an out stretched arm.
Most boxing purists would call that a swing, but it seems they can make an effective punch at this range that isnt a swing.
Here is a famous and very effective Russian MMA fighter, same long hooks really long, he as a short low reach fighter is using hooks from the outside vs straight punches at almost straight punch range. Hows that for non textbook fighting! Its highly effective too!
