  • What you think about me.

Hello guys my name is David and I am 18 years old. I have been fan of this site for almost a half year now. I am reading articles everyday when i am going to school. Today when i was leaving gym i thought that i can make some video of me finaly. Not only to share it but also i wanted to see myself. So after almost 3 hours in gym i told my friend to record short video of me. I am not a boxer, i was signed on trainings 2-3years ago for 2 months and it gave me nothing so i stopped going there and i wasnt training since then. I am just big fan of sport and since new month i started with my friend routine that we will train every Wed. I am big boxing fan and everything i see in fights or Pro´s training i am trying to do myself I want you to rate this short clip because one guy in gym was laughing at me when i was hitting bag really dont know why. And i know kept my hands down but i was tired as hell it was at the end of training. And I am from Slovakia.

Here is link and sorry for my bad english.

You are much better than the average person, and I would really recommend speaking to a good boxing gym in your city, if you drive, don't be put off by distance. you have a good set of skills to start from. if you want to start competing at amature level, mention this when you go there, ask to see a class in full session so you can get a good idea of the intensity, but you have good fundamentals and speed.

At first glance, your head movement needs improving, something should always be moving, your feet, your hands, or your head, or a combination of them but never nothing! At times you throw good and fast but then when you regroup for a split second you are stationery. in a fight a break in punches invites the opponent to start throwing back, this is fine, but with the movement of your head you have already anticipated and slipped the counter.

I would definitely seek out the best gym you possibly can, everyone thinks they can do it alone, but you will start to develop bad habits (you are only human) and a coach will be on your back to correct them.

        Hey,

First off all thank you for your reply. I live near city and i do not own a car nor license... Also i am on university studying medice and all training are in late hours (6PM) so firstly i wont catch my bus to home and secondly i need to study sometimes ... There is one gym in village i live but that is the one i left because trainings were pure garbage and no one thought i had some potential (one of trainers told to another trainer that i am zero ) Also thank you for your advice with head movement.. that is the thing no one told me about. So i have no experience or knowledge about deeper technics. In sparrings i am 90% defensive fighter. When i spar with someone Most of the time i just counter punch and i really almost never get hit and i am not Overexaggerating. I really love Guillermo Rigondeaux i want to learn his style .. his slickness but i have maybe 10% of his slickness. When i am sparring i use shoulder roll and sometimes i switch it to orthodox defensive stance with both gloves up. Yeah sounds pretty unreal that someone can use shoulder roll without training But i am not saying i have perfected it but it really really blocks almost off punches. Also i really love to go low ( I dont know better explanation I mean bend or something) when am dodging punches

There is only so much you can see yourself, I've been boxing 10 years and my coach still shouts at me when I get sloppy or try to cut corners. Humans are creatures of habit, and we end up repeating what we know (so if it's wrong, you keep doing it wrong)

Always keep moving, head, hands, and feet. And remember to perfect the jab, I can not stress this enough, it's the most important punch in your arsenal and probably the one that is thrown 80% of the time. People ignore it as they want to throw the big KO punches, but look at rigodeaux, jab, pivot, double jab pivot

You're not competing right? Just have fun with it, don't worry about how good you are.

I think I'd have wide open shots of your face before you ever came close to me with those body shots.

Very good hand speed doing what you do...

But there's no protecting yourself and there's plenty of times when your heads sticking out comfortably waiting to get hit. If your practicing going off and letting loose and this vid was made to show off your speed then yea. Your punches were nice and quick. If your boxing and visualizing an opponent hitting you back and are conscious of knowing hard fast punches WILL be comming back at you.....then I'd say you need improvement in that sense

Hey Leftover, first of all thank you for your reply. I wasnt even thinking about any defense when we shot that clip Just wanted to **** some shots on bag. Thank you for your opinion on my speed. I never really knew if i am fast or not, but also in this clip i had both my legs and arms almost dead so if i was fresh i would be 15-20% faster And about protecting.. I never open myself. Sometimes i drop my hand like RJJ but still i have one hand up. I use shoulder roll and i dont know why does it work so effectively even during sparring sometimes i think why do i block every his jab with it And i am counter puncher, i rarely start any attacks except 2 jab combination first i drop and jab to body and immediately i jab to head and it works.. Only if i had trainer ... i was thinking of individual trainings but dont know if my "university student budget" is enough I can spare max 5euros per training
