  • Help - jab needs to be snappier

Just won another AM fight (8-1 now) but struggled landed my jab as effectively as before.

I got a few new spar partners (more experienced than me) and struggled to hit them as much, I ignored this and put it down to their experience, then in my fight same happened. When I talked to my opponent after he said my jab wasn't as fast as he was expecting.

Any simple good drills to get this snappier? Never been an issue before but I expect as the caliber of my opponent is increasing then I'm not as quick ask thought - any ideas?

    Thanks

Working the jab on the heavybag only.
Several workouts of 12 rounds on the bag with your jab.
Working mayweather style padwork to train to relax while punching.

And of course explosive speed specific drills. There should be a lot on youtube.

It takes years over years to improve the jab to such an extent that it
is an useful weapon against advanced fighters.
Even world champions should not neglect the basics.
    You can always improve!

How long have you been training?

Been training about 10 years but competing for 3 and I take the juniors for lessons at our club

I would say I'm at a very competent level, I think as I'm advancing the quality of my opposition is also (and understandably)

I always thought my jab was good so never really thought about it, just now have doubt

        "Jab that till it hurts!
        500 times without stopping.
Do you hear me? 500 times...

        Now, hit that bag.
Hit it. Jab it till it hurts. Go ahead!
        I want 500 high ones."

Face your palm towards you when your fist is in normal guard position and turn the punch from the shoulder.
