  • Why are chins in the air at all?

Why not one solid piece from head to chest ie tuck your chin all the way not just part way?

You loose a little visibility but you still have plenty and you are far more resistant to knockouts you can barely get the chin at all.

Why do they insist on not tucking the chin ALL the way only part?

Your visibility from there is fine if you're not looking at his head. You see the guys feet, hips, knees, gloves and you know that his head is right between his shoulders...... right there is everything that you need to see. Tuck that chin and roll on your way in......... or work the jab and the ring. Keep that chin tucked

Marlin Starling was all about the hands up/countering. It'll still rock you a bit with your hands up even if it's caught in your glove. Hands are very fragile though, catching them like that.........

I don't keep my chin tucked all the time either.

I like to bait my opponent to head hunt, I can usually slip out of the way unless he is considerably faster than I am, which is rare. I play to my strong points, speed, slickness, defense, and ring generalship. I land little but get hit less. The few times I get caught slipping I take it to the body but not the chin or face often.

Bait gets them taking more risk, but you do as well, why not cover up and use your speed to out point them out maneuver them, and out dodge them while not taking any risk?

I think that with the chin in the air you can also move more freely, isn't it so?

                  habits and all that

You have to remember that in nearly all fights/rounds, more shots are thrown than landed, so you have to factor in the lightening reflexes that a lot of fighters have to negate the need to protect.

If in doubt, Arthur Abraham or Martin Murray, both have ridiculously high tight guards

I just can't take Abraham seriously.
