    Question about my new Gym

Brand new to boxing. Joined this gym about 3 months ago. i am a 52 year old guy who wants to learn to spa/box.

gym i joined charges me $110 per month. for that, i can go to the gym as much as i want (it is open 6 days per week and i go 5 - 6 dats a week for about 90 minutes - 2 hours each time). the owner/coach will spend 5 minutes with me correcting my stance and punching technique on the heavy bag. and about once every 2 - 3 weeks, he will do mit work with me in the ring. he will also answer any question i ask. the rest of my day in the gym, i work the speed bag, jump rope and shadow box.

i don't think he spends that much time with me because i am still learning to throw a jab, cross and hook. i try, i suck, he corrects and then lets me practice.

does this sound about right for a brand new guy like me and for $110/month?

    thx

It sounds like you're overpaying for "open gym". Private lessons are around $120 to $160/month (that's usually on top of the open gym price of $30 to $60/month) at most places I've checked out and they give you something like 3 hour-long sessions per week for the month.

You're spending a lot just to have full gym access. Owners/trainers generally limit their time unless you pay for private lessons, so that's normal. I'd talk to him and just be frank about your needs, budget, etc. He's likely to say whatever he needs to in order to keep your business so be sure to get a commitment, to either more time spent with you or for private lessons that you pay for.

Your 52 yrs old!!!! What trainer is giving you ANY time.
Sorry but trainers train fighters your not training to fight at your age.
Enjoy the workouts and get in shape similarly to a boxer but forget about individual time, not happening.
I opened my gym in 1969 and it remains open to this day. I had plenty of members who were not competitive. They were welcomed and some did add to the growth by being able to learn and then be able to spar also simply paying a membership was a huge help.

I would have no time for you but would have a few members that could work with you and simulate you into the program.

I've had a few members through the years who added value to the gym who were not competitors for one reason or another.

good luck, find a work out partner to hook up with and your workouts will improve.

you may be able to do it, it's entirely up to you if you pass a doctors physical. A guy who worked with me when I was young just won his second or third National Title in the Senior division. He's only 65 or so though.......

mkmona04, you can do what ever you want!
If theres such a thing as a "benefit match" then go for it but I can tell you that you need to know who your matched with?
You need to have a second who knows the lay of the land in your area.
You can be a tough guy and I hope ypu are but when fatique sets in the tough guy gets his azz handed to him.
I'm looking out for you, it's no sweat off me but if I were representing you if the right match wasn't available I'd suggest passing.

I have an old friend who at 60 yrs old could fight some of these heavyweights today but I'm not suggesting he do it!
