  • What is this obsession with Punching Power?

I don't understand why everyone are upset with it when Muhammad Ali or Ray Leonard weren't known for their big punch,so what is the deal?

The people obsessed with power usually don't know much from a technical standpoint. That is why they will never understand fighters like Mayweather, Pep, and Whitaker.

People love home runs. People love the deep pass going for a touchdown. And people love knockouts. Why is this even a question?

Those who have real power its always an advantage ,those who don't will try and discredit the importance of it. Power is always a factor in a fight b/c the one who doesn't has to fight that much smarter and less mistakes. The k.o factor is why ppl watch fights ,lets not kid ourselves.

If there isn't enough power, we start getting KO complaints.

Because power earns respect and fear. Not speed look at people like Amir Khan who're lightening quick but don't have respect because they're not big punchers. Then look at people like GGG, Canelo who are bigger punchers. More people respect them.

Better to have power, than not. Assuming it's not at the expense of technical skill.

Power stops fights. That's a good thing from a fighter, and a viewer perspective.

I have been told I punch hard with **** technique in the boxing gym every time I was there not trying to punch the guy's hands off, just punch softly like I would but I still get told this everytime I go there. I think people are making fun of me,but I will hopefully run into someone nice soon.

And when I first joined this forum I saw EVERYONE talk about this, barely speaking about technique, speed or slipping punches from what I first saw. So I just had to know why people either brag about it or something.

Why would people brag about punching hard is my other question I suppose?

I apologize for being a total noob

Few posters here know anything about the technical side of boxing.

don't worry,I love knockouts more than the technical side. but I love watching Ali,I love watching Ray Leonard too. But it seems like this obsession and pride of having "power" is the main thing around here.
