  • Boxing Shoes

I work out at a local gym (heavy bag, double end bag, shadow boxing, mitt work etc.) The floor there is concrete with a rubber overlay. Since I don't do anything in a ring, would it be worth it for me to get a pair of boxing shoes? If not, any recommendations on what type of athletic shoe to get?

    Thanks

I don't like boxing shoes on cement. I prefer cross trainers. My personal favorites are some of the ones Puma makes because they're cheaper than the usual oveepriced big-names but perform really well.

When selecting shoes for boxing training, having a little arc and cushioning helps but avoid thick or spongy cushioning as it slows you down by absorbing pressure.

Thanks for the advice. When you say you don't like training on cement, do you mean the type I mentioned with the rubber tiles on top?

I bough a pair of Wrestling shoes for 34 dollars at asics. They work great.

I don't wear boxing shoes on straight cement. But, on a rubberized surface they're ideal.

Here are my favorite shoes for using instead of boxing shoes, especially since our gym has both a concrete floor and padded ring.
