  • Stance for Beginner Southpaw

I have some free time and will be studying tape soon. Which lefty's stance is best for a newb?

"Best", really depends on how you plan to fight. Your stance should support your style of attack and defense. That said, Rigo has really good form. Beginners should usually have one hand on the left cheek and the other in front ready to strike or defend, elbow tucked.

Both hands up. As a beginner you have to get used to blocking shots and having your hands up is already going to block a lot of punches. As you learn and progress, eventually finding your style you will then be able to switch hand placement around according to what fits your needs. Hands low is usually someone with good hand speed as well as height advantage. Head movement is very important with that stance.

You don't want to be imitating a southpaw stance like a rigo or Judah etc.. I'm sorry I respect opinions but that stance relies on timing and if u are starting out u will get that with experience only. I'd say the best southpaw stance to adopt is a winky Wright stance... He positions his hands very well
