  • Good diet/training regime for boxing?

    Hey guys,

Just wondering what the consensus is for a good training and diet plan to accommodate boxing? I wanna compete eventually, and need to drop some pounds - I used to do bodybuilding so am carrying some extra mass (muscle and fat) - so I'm familiar with most weight training exercises and cardio routines - however I've never really had to train for a sport before, much less one that is so cardio orientated such as boxing.

When I was bodybuilding I would split cardio and weight days up as to manipulate my glycogen levels for maximum results, but I suppose now that the goal is not to pack on muscle - I could perform cardio, then afterwards focus on weights?

But then where does actual boxing training come in? How many times should I split up training at my boxing gym (James Shuler's Memorial Gym in Philadelphia, if anyone's got any good/bad experiences?) and a regular gym?

As you can see - I'm just chock full of questions haha, so any advice would be greatly appreciated on the training front!

Now onto dieting...again, back to bodybuilding - when I would lean down during bodybuilding I would simply cut back my carbs and calories, and up my protein and fats, however - because of the amount of cardio work involved I have a feeling cutting back carbs probably isn't the best idea - I plan on keeping my protein intake high, and limiting my calories to around 2500 per day - it's more so what do I do regarding the carbs?

I've been taking a look at Anthony Joshua, and he seems to blend bodybuilding principals in with boxing training fairly well.

Thanks guys - sorry for the overload of questions!
