  • Knuckle Pain

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum and i fell in love with this noble art, but, there's a problem. I feel rapid shots of pain in my middle knucke when throwing punches with my right arm, this since the time that i punched the heavy bag with bare knuckle. X-Ray: everything fine, so it's probably an inflammation of the soft meat near the knuckle (or at the tendon). What should i do to speed up the process? I already stopped boxing for 1 month and 1 week, it seemed it went away but i still have the pain so i am asking you
    Thanks in advance

Don't hit the bag for a couple weeks. Ice it for 20 minutes everyday. Focus the hand wrap a bit more on the knuckles when you wrap your hands.

I've never broken a knuckles before or had any hand injuries for as long as I've been boxing (1.5 years) so I like to think I know what I'm doing.

You can't fk with tendons. They heal very slowly. You can do things to address the pain (NSAIDS) but they don't help with the healing process.
As mentioned, ice can help. I like cissus herb for tendons. But, you are really just going to have to rest it and not do ****** shyt like hitting without protection. Pros don't do that, a newcomer certainly isn't going to get away with doing it either.

I bought an anti-inflammation spray my doctor suggested. Is it fine if i use it and alternate it with ice? How much have i to wait to be sure i can hit the bag again?

It kinda serves the same function as ice. Ice drives out inflammation. Sounds like you got hooked up with some good stuff. If you find it helping, stick with it.

I'm actually going through a "boxer's knuckle" recovery myself. The chain broke when I was throwing a combo on the heavy bag, causing my right hand to land crooked. Middle knuckle was screaming at me for a good 5 days, was irritated for another week. When it got to the point that it was occasionally sore, but not constantly, I used a gel wrap in my gloves and only tapped the bag with my right hand. That was a mistake and I spent 2 more weeks shelved. Been around a month and I can finally tap the bag again (if gloved) but it's not ready for more than that yet.

I say all that to say; don't use it for at least a month. Then, go back in very slowly. I've had this twice before and it takes about 3 months to really go away, IF you don't aggravate it. If you are susceptible to this injury, be smart about wrapping, gloves, etc. I talked to a guy the other day who can't hit a bag anymore because he wrecked the tendon in his right hand and never got it repaired. I could see it was literally collapsed between his fingers.

I will follow your suggestion, i hope that the fact i have pain only with each punch (and not the all time) will minimize my recover time, i have to say though it's so sad you can't punch the bag with full power.. I think i'll stick to the double ended one. Thanks for the advices man, i hope you will be able to return boxing asap!

I broke my hand in a fight when I was younger and that's the only real hand injury I've ever had. I've come close to hurting my knuckles early in my training but I was very adamant about wrapping them correctly and strengthening them from the beginning. I used to train with those old school gloves that are just thin pieces of leather. Broken hands only happen when you hit someone either on a hard part of the face or incorrect wrapping. Plenty of fighters have gone through their career without breaking their hands. It's not a right on passage it's ******ity.

I broke mind when I hit a guy on the top of his head. The pain shot from my hand to the rest of my body. I had it fasted and had to rehab it for a bit with bands and other exercises.

The pain was exquisite. I had to wipe my azz left handed.

Yeah that happens unfortunately. You just got to do everything you can to avoid it.
