  • Has anyone ever tried or done a body detox?

I broke (fractured) my big toe about 2.5 months ago, it took about 6 weeks with lots of calcium for the bone to heal and 2 months to heal fully. Anyways during this time I pretty much said F it and ate like a pig (fast food & candy) and didnt lift a single weight. I am totally regretting it now because I gained about 10-12lbs and sadly it all stored around my belly. Ive been in the gym again for about 2 weeks now, and for those of you that have seen other posts, I am big on cardio but this isnt really working as fast as Id like and I feel kinda out of it still (blah). So I did a lil research and Ive read about detoxing the body especially after binging like I did but there are so much out there, so IDK what is good, what really works, or what is just a gimmick?

I know eventually with the way I work out I will lose this weight naturally but summers here and I have a couple pool parties coming up, so I m looking for a good kick start. Any recommendations fellas?

Detox won't do s hit for the fat you already have lol. You'll just "feel" better... Though I admittedly am not too familiar with detoxes as they seem like a scam most of the time. Just eat clean dude. No sugars. No soda. Keep the salt to a minimum so you dont look even more bloated. 10-12 pounds will probably take you about two months to do it naturally and healthy. Might be less depending on your build... Like if you're 6'5 12 pounds won't be s hit to you lol. But if you're like 5'9, 160 pounds or something it'll come off just let it happen. You could probably lose it in a month but you don't want to burn so much that you're burning through your muscle too. Most of us get "fat" after injuries dude 10-12 pounds is nothing. You probably look better than most normal dudes anyhow. Before your pool parties eat EXTRA lean and drink obscene amounts of water a few days before and then just kind of chill the day of. You'll seem nice and lean.

I "detox" by switching up my eating habits for a couple weeks. I add much more veg, avoid a lot of oils/fats, eat plenty of clean protein. A trick that works well for me is to replace breakfast with a shake. Either a protein shake or a fresh fruit and veg juice. Then a moderate lunch and normal dinner. I can't say that will work for everyone but it's something I do a couple times a year when I feel like my midsection is filling out and it always works for me. I don't actually reduce my intake much, but subbing grains for vegetables does a lot for leaning up.

Upping your fiber also does a lot to clear out your guts and get rid of the bloated feeling. I don't use a fiber supp, just leafy greens (endive, dandelion, collared, etc) and various veg and nuts in a big salad every day. Some of the yogurt dressings (look for Bolthouse) are tasty with hardly any fat so you can make it pretty palatable. When you're craving snacks, go for something fibrous and not too sugary, like an orange.

Anyhow, that's my form of "detox", just detoxing from the typical diet.

If you want to lose weight fast I would cut out all added sugar and eat most of your carbs at the beginning of the day. Keep in mind though that losing more than 2 to 3 pounds a week will drain your strength and affect any physical activities negatively. Good luck!

Cut out all sugar and carbs, and work your ass off in the gym. It will affect your strength and energy, and you will need to be careful of your blood sugar levels. So it's ok to recharge with some sugar and carbs every few days. I've been doing that for the past two and a half weeks, but only from Monday to Thursday. From Friday I eat whatever I want. Your body will burn off all the sugar and will be running on fat, so you'll be able to burn half a kilo at the gym easily.

I'm not a dietician so sorry if my advice is dangerous or BS, but it's working for me. Two weeks ago on Monday morning I was 73.2kg, and last Friday morning I was 67.4kg, and I'm well on my way to getting my six-pack back.

Thanks Foxx! Dang man I think its hard for me to realize now that I am not in my 20's and I just cant workout to stay in shape, a proper diet is needed now (going on 33yo). I am going to up my fiber like you suggested because it is a bloated/lagging feeling, I also have to limit the salt like NearHypnos suggested. I am going to try a fiber powder as well as some greens. The dandelion was a good suggestion, read good things about it so far also fish oil I read is great. Well good info as always Foxx, Id green you but it says I gotta spread the love haha!

33 is when I realized, "WTF, I can't just eat anything I want anymore."
At 39, I'm having to be even more careful but being smart (not ever letting myself go nor pushing myself to the point of significant injury) has kept me in the same or better shape as 10 years ago. If there's anything I've learned about diet and exercise, it's to be steady and practical. Going too extreme can burn you out and do just as much damage as neglect.

Good to hear that you're getting proactive. Most people in their 30s would let an injury like that shelf them for a long time and they'd likely never bounce back.

**** I'm way too hardcore on my detoxes. I just go on a water fast for 5-10 days & when I start seeing visions of holy figures from books I don't believe in I consider it a success.

                  fiber powder?

sounds artificial. why not just dump a tbsp or two of flax seed into your smoothies? has omega 3's and tons and tons of fiber

Cut out soda completely, limit your sugar intake (even in coffee), drink a lot of water (1 gallon a day minimum), work out and most importantly, eat healthy, protein rich REAL food every 3 to 4 hours during hours you are awake. This jump starts your metabolism and has your body burning calories at a peak state. Oh yeah...beer is a no no as well while you're trying to shed weight.
