    Diabetes and Boxing

I'm 28 y/o and been a Type 1 diabetic for 6 years. Not a funny thing to live but always thanfull that I got the resources to get my nutrition and medication every day.

As a HUGE boxing fan and a student of the sweet science, I know I'm not allowed to compete at a professional level with my condition (Not that I can...lol).

The question is, how safe is for me to practice boxing at an amateur level, with protection for sure?

Not to sound like a viagra or cialis commercial but you may want to check with your healthcare provider to make sure you are healthy enough to box.

I remember seeing this guy fight in the Toughman World Championships who had diabetes so it must be doable at some level &/or with certain acceptable risks.

Definitely something you'd wanna talk to your doctor about doe as the others are saying.

You are allowed to compete at the professional level. Diabetes is nothing that would qualify someone not to box. The athletic commission and the commission doctors would make sure that it's safe. And you would need a the****utic use exemption for the insulin.
German light-heavyweight Enrico Kölling is actually a diabetic. His diabetes was discovered after his lone loss.

I'm myself at a high risk of getting diabetes (unfortunately it's very common in my family). Some recommendation from my side:
            - Train consistently. Add some weight training.
            - Monitor your blood-sugar levels after training
            - Eat foods with a higher fiber content, this will make sure that you will have a more consistent and longer supply of carbohydrates into your bloodstream
            - Eat plant based. This will help you doing sports or in general.

I see. Although in some places you can't get a boxing license if you're insulin dependent diabetic. Like me.

Plenty of athletes have diabetes. Just monitor your blood sugar.
