    One thing I'll add that I've been moving toward; yogurt. I started adding a tablespoon or two of plain yogurt in my protein shakes and have noticed that they go down even better. I'm guessing it's the enzymes but I don't get any heavy gut feeling when adding yogurt to my giant shakes. Nor do my shakes clash with a real meal an hour or two later (something that used to be an issue).

      Might give it a try.
      I don't get why people eat Gelatin/hydrolysed beef. Its biological value is ZERO. It lacks in essential amino acids. And usually it's made from slaughterhouse waste, because otherwise nobody could afford that stuff. Real hydrolysed beef is basically non-existant.

      We can absorb them. For vitamins and minearals there is no real difference if we eat or drink stuff. Carbs get treated a little different if we drink them instead of eating them; it's almost like a soda without the acid then.

        Because most people jump on health trends without doing Research, and everyone wants a quick fix. Shakes are quick and easy.

        You absorb some of it. But most of it runs right through you.

        It's like a vegans who eat beans and think they get a lot of protein. You'll crap most of it out, probably lucky to absorb 30% of the protein in them.

          I personally have a shake because I hate eating vegetables. So, it's just easier for me to drink half a bag of spinach and assorted fruits twice a day. I only put protein in one of them. I also hate cooking three times a day, so if I can have a filling shake instead of a meal it's just more convenient and less of a mess.

          Agreed about not needing excessive protein. One of the best studies indicated that you only really need .6 per pound. Unless you're n gear you don't need more.

              Supposedly it's good for the joints/muscle tissues. Is what you're saying is that it's simply not true?

                Because it can help achy joints. I know you hardcore skeptics rarely open your minds to this stuff but for those interested;

                I don't suffer "joint disease" per-se, but I've noticed a nice difference when taking collagen supps to help relieve pain in the knees from boxing, running, etc.

                  The thing with muscle tissue is, that to repair or replace it, your body would need to generate the protein, which is only possible if all the essential amino acids are present. The body has the capability to store amino acids, to mix and match all the essential and semi-essential amino acids, so the gelatin is not 100 % useless, but the probability is high that you are producing a lot of expensive pee.

                  I know that there have been studies about the positive effects on joints, but some of them had been su****ious. There was even a study which suggested eating gummi bears and their containing gelatine would help joint pain. I think the paper to it was retracted later because the results published seemed to be nonsense.

                  The best thing against joint pain is reducing acid intake and reducing factors of inflammatory agents. Eating gelatine might be the exact opposite of what should be done. If there is a positive effect because of gelatine, it might help against the symptome, but not the root cause.

                  I will give it a read later. I'm in university right now and have full text access to it.

                    L-Leucine to improve portion synthesis and that is pretty much it.

                      Why hemp? Hemp isn't a complete protein. It has a BV value of around 80. I'm all for legal help and pot etc. but lets not get crazy it isn't a miracle plant. Like most plants it isn't a complete source of protein.
