  • How much water to cut in amateur fight?

I'm currently 6'2, fairly lean at 184. My coach said the nearest weight class is 175. To get there I would need to be dropping almost 10 lbs. I can cut 3-5lbs of fat to get REALLY lean, but it wouldn't be enough, and dropping 5 lbs of muscle is just way too much, I would feel too weak to do anything. I'm wondering how much water I could realistically cut on fight night as an amateur? Would 5-6lbs be alright?

I'm in Ontario, Canada and looking up online, I can't find any org with weightclasses at 175, nearest I could find 178lbs, next class being 200lbs, so I'm not sure if he remembers correctly. He said after 175, it's 185+ which is BS in my opinion.

theres 178 weight class and then 201 so if you can cut 5lbs of fat then you shouldnt have problem making 178. Since you are asking about weightclasses i guess that you are pretty new to the game of boxing so i would suggest just get on a good diet and try to make the weight without draining yourself. Theres no point cutting weight in amateurs, you fight to gain experience.
