Try shuffling 5 girl friends at once!
You need to be sharp and cunning at the same time.
    Your timing must be impeccable!
Your hands can get sore but they will heal quickly.
Matt work will start out a bit awkward but after a few weeks you'll become efficient. (Minimum 3 sessions a day)
The most difficult part will be bank rolling this sport! It is very expensive however its a lot more fun getting sweating in this game then getting sweating with some stinky dude!
Dry skin is a side effect from this sport. You will be showering often at least twice a day usually if you perform effectively. Remember your sparring partners have great smelling devices so covering your tracks is a must.

Yes you do need to train prior to beginning, this sport will sap your strength and you will feel weak in the legs.......................sleepy & hungry too!

I been thinking of taking either Judo or BJJ. I've been interested in both disciplines for a while now. Only thing is I don't know which one I should go for as a boxer (if that matters).

Anyone here have experience with either discipline that can give me some advice?
Theres no such thing as doing more than one discipline being TOO much, unless you have an actual map of fighting world titles for a specific sport.... BJJ is good ANY grappling is good,it depends on the individual and trainer. learning more striking arts also helps reflect what a boxer may or may not do, so don't be fooled with thinking other striking arts wont help as well in PURE BOXING as wrestling will help maintain better balance ,ppl are confusing of competing and training...overall balance on the feet help in boxing, and that's just wrestling even judo...on the feet BJJ isnt that beneficial than those arts in using it in the ring. Its also how you train...these are things to thinks about unlike knuckle head Corso who doesnt really know what an actual martial art even means yet is giving nonsense B.s which he knows nothing of..

              This is true..
Once your boxing your stance is THE MOST important thing of all, its your foundation to every punch to every move you make even to how you take a punch...
Cross training messes with all that and you will get confused about the stances.
Iv seen and (tried) to train people coming from kickboxing/Thai boxing/ mma, and for the life of them they cant get their stand right, and they also keep switching back and forth from southpaw, which lets be honest most people at amateur level arnt food enough to be doing.

Pick one and stick to it, a boxing stance and movement should be second nature to a boxer, not having to be thinking about it all the time and adjusting it due other sports.

If you are worried about the stance simply take a grappling stance left handed, which is boxing orthodox stance. I'm a southpaw but grapple orthodox most of the time. Only reason I switched to left handed judo in my 30s was because I hurt my right shoulder.

If you're doing 2 sports, BJJ is a little less physically damaging (IMO) and won't interfere w/ your boxing. That was my experience at least.
This guy knows whats up. I love Judo as an art, but it is way too taxing on the body. Way too easy to get hurt also.

I mean I'm not going to drive some one to the ropes and give them a head and arm osoto like Rousey does but you do learn how to push someone around effectively and efficiently. You get a lot of boxers just burning energy in tight or in the clinch because they dont know how to push another man around.

Sure as strong as I am I could simply bury my head and shove them around like a bull but I'd rather use technique, leverage, angles, and a knowledge of anatomy(really important FYI) to move them easily and efficiently and force them to burn energy trying to stop me.

I was in my prime in Judo in the 90s when the high level competition and rules of the time made it all about a war of attrition, later rule changes in the late 90s sped things up. So knowing how to force a man to burn energy while you conserve was very important.

As for newaza (ground fighting) not really applicable but great for conditioning.

If you are worried about Judo ****ing up your stance just learn left handed Judo. Lots of top Judokas use a left handed grip and stance. Rousey is one of them. As is my judo idol Koga.

Oh and learning to fall has a nice boxing bonus too. I've never whip-lashed my head on the mat which usually knocks you the **** out.
Great post. I totaly agree with all you mentioned. Crazy how easy you can control someones top half when you have experience and know how. Breaking fall for me is a lifelong skill which judo also taught me, whether falling backwards or rolling out of fall going forwards. What are you doing hitting the mat though?! Better touch up on that defense.. Jokes.
As for RedFox 'too hard on the body' i don't agree as they will teach technique first (imo) and object is to throw your opponent and land them on their back. Judo - 'the gentle way'.
If you've got dojo close, give it a go and stop going if u don't like it.
                      Over and out.
