    1.So how important is it as a Boxer to stretch?

    2.Legs, Back, Shoulders what is more important to stretch?

    If I could go back in time stretching is the one thing I would do more of. At first I didn't think it was important at all but you need it to stay fluid and fast. If you're all tight your power goes to ****.

    I like to stretch out my shoulders, back, hips, quads, hamstrings, and calves. Been meaning to find a good all-around stretching routine but I always hit those areas now no matter what.

    Yoga is helpful if you have the time but I don't any more.

      Stretching before boxing is bad. I've heard several pro-coaches in several sports say this and it's certainly rang true for me. It actually makes you more prone for injury. What you want to do is warm-up. Go light, do various light exercises. Stretch after you box. Best of all, stretch in the evenings or on days-off.

        ^ i think so too.
        doesnt make sense to stretch your muscles while its inactive and cool..
        should warm your body before stretching.

              Yup I know a lot of questions ^^
              1) Stretching is vital. To all athletes. It helps to prevent injury.

              2) There are all important. You need to stretch all areas of your body. Boxers utilize their entire body. Feet, Legs, Abs, Back, Shoulders, Arms, Neck, all of it! Try to stretch as many areas as possible.

              3) Stretching on a regular basis will allow your muscles to expand more easily and withstand more force. If you want to know how you feel, basically, your body feels looser and more relaxed. In boxing, we all hate tight muscles or tension right? Stretching will help relieve that tension and loosen up your muscles. A lot of people don't realize that stretching allows your muscles to withstand more power too. When stretching, you are training your muscles to utilize more muscle fibers. All in all, you reduce your chances of injury.

              4) After a heart-raiser exercise, do your dynamic and static exercises. If you don't know the difference, google them! Make each stretch exercise last between 8-12 seconds. Stretch before and after every training session, your roadwork or whatever. If you're serious about preventing injury, spend 20 minutes stretching in the morning and evenings. Remember, you need to do a heart-raiser for stretching, get that blood flowing to the muscles.

              5) Every time we exercise, our muscles become more compact as we try to recruit more muscles fibers to perform that very exercise. If you don't stretch, you are not relieving the tension within your muscles. The more tense your muscles are, the less flexible they are, and therefore they have a higher chance of being 'pulled' or torn. I have suffered a 2nd Degree tear in my hamstring. Not nice.

              6) Before and after sessions. Mornings and evenings if possible.

              7) We can't say exactly how many times, it is hard to quantify that lol. But, we know they stretch a lot. Athletes also have massages, ice baths, and water pressure sessions to help relieve muscle tension.

                First thanks a lot man!

                I´ll definitly do add stretching into daily workout but I still got questions:

                1. Do you mean by heart-raiser for stretching that having better blood flow by exercise will be more efficiently for stretching?
                Do you suggest to directly stretch after running, boxing, a little later or like 30 minutes later when I´m pretty much cooled down?

                2. Why do you suggest to stetch before workout?
                Do you suggest to stretch like 5-10 before workout and maybe 20-30 minutes after workout?

                I´ve read and heard a lot of people that stretching too much before a workout is counter productive.

                  As Red Foxx stated, stretch after your workout, do your research though before as it's a divided opinion. Warm before and stretch afterwards.


                  Anyways, speaking for myself here, yoga/stretching has really improved a lot of factors in my training, most notably aiding recovery after beating myself up in the gym.

                    It's funny how all the research coming out now is showing no advantage to stretching unless it is for a sport that requires flexibility....so gymnastics. There's no proof in helping speed or power not is there anything conclusive on preventing injury. You are actually more likely to injure yourself stretching.
