  • Do I need to run?

Heu guys Im new here, I havent done any boxing training yet but Im going to my first class tonight. My question is this, if I jump rope, cycle, and swim, will that type of cardio be sufficient to get away with not running? Its not that I just hate running but because of my flat feet my shins suffer every time I try to run, I rest from running for long periods of time and the first session back always feels good, but when I try again my shins always end up hurt, I feel like it would be better to just avoid this if I can, but will it come to the point where I will need to run? Thanks

sounds good. some heavyweights do jump rope in place of road work because its too tolling on the knees.

rmbr to do sprints kinda stuff

Learn to run on your toes and stop letting your feet pound the pavement, that got rid of shin splits for me for the most part and I use to get them really bad. Also get a good pair of running sneakers.

Also once you run more regularly the shin splits should calm down, as your legs should get more accustomed to it.

IMO if your young and want to box, you should be running. Jump roping will get very easy for you pretty quickly. Swimming is good but is a pain in the butt, that spin class bike is pretty awesome as long as you keep your pushing yourself.

At the end of the day, I don't think anything replaces running.

I hear ya, I get them bad myself. After a few days of running they go away though. Just remember to stretch and focus on how your feet are landing.

Sometimes just giving them enough time to warm up makes a huge difference, Maybe a half mile walk before running.

A little trick if your using a treadmill, put it on a incline a little but. If your on a treadmill you should be running on a slight incline anyway tbh.
