Never used them. Saw one or two use them in the gym but I never used them.

Always slipped on the actual modern day gloves.

I never really '****' the bag though. I go for output over a couple dozen punches of hard effort.

I've got Rival gear from head to toe, but I don't agree with this, I use 12 ounce gloves on the bag, I've used small ones (not Rival) and hurt my wrist and just overall didn't like it. 16oz for sparring and 12 for bag/pads.

I use similar gloves on the heavy bag that I use in the ring. I'm about efficiency, and seamless transition from training to real application. To me, it makes no sense to change my weapons, except for sparring, and that is out of respect for the other guy.

Punch technique can prevent injury, and if I'm on a bag that is packed down I go light on the hooks to the body so as not to injure my wrist. Those longer Muay Thai bags and some of the higher quality waterlayer..gel bags ect are ideal for practicing throwing your hook to the body.

A couple dozen? That's not a very high ceiling... My doctrine is the heavy bag is ideal for developing power. And stamina. It's my favorite boxing tool other than an actual person. I throw with mean intentions on the bag in the privacy of my own home (1 1/2 to 2 hours until I'm stumbling with exhaustion is not untypical)... But in the gym it was wise not to show too much because people were casing you for when y'all spar.

That's reasonable. I figure thats how most people see the heavy bag.

I use the heavy bag more like Floyd though. High volume; no less than 300 punches a round.

I don't mean to make it sound like I never hit the bag hard, it's just not my focus. I'll throw in a few hard shots during the round so there's probably 50-100 hard shots within the 300 punches that I throw during the round on the bag.

With the influence of this thread, I picked up some RB50 bag gloves from the Rival store here in Vegas. I have to say I really love them, and I think I'll be sticking with these types of gloves for awhile (not exclusively). I have been switching off between them and the more conventional gloves for practicality reasons. Some may argue that bigger gloves will help develop the fast twitch (buzz word, I know) you need, but you could also argue that the smaller gloves then allow for the application of them as well. Overall I'm thoroughly happy.

$80 for bag gloves? Holy cow.

But if you're happy with them then that's all that matters.

I'm decidedly low tech and cheap myself, like these guys:
