How do you use the legs on a basic boxing uppercut

Do you drive with the legs in the direction of the uppercut ie up

Or is the uppercut purely from the rotation of the body and nothing else/

Theoretically, you can utilize both. I can see using your legs while on the inside, head to head, depending on the room you're given you might be smothered for rotation.

But, 90% of the time I think rotation is the best way. The ability to apply centripetal force is only obtainable by rotation.
