Has anyone used this? Feels more natural to me but I know that 95% of people pivot on the front foot when throwing a lead hook.

Rotating (to the inside) on rear heel when throwing a lead hook?

If it's the lead hook, should be a hop-esque motion off your lead foot; that's what is going to bring you forward.
Not sure how people are pivoting on their lead foot while throwing a lead hook, their foot theoretically should be off the ground. Unless you mean like taking a step in THEN throwing the hook? Because otherwise, to me, a lead hook is thrown whilst closing the gap, NOT after you've already closed it.
Also, not sure why you're pivoting on your heel (maybe you meant on the ball of your foot?). But, if you're pivoting to the inside, I'd imagine you're torquing your body in order load it up? In that case it's ok, but don't make it obvious. I would utilize it in conjunction with a mild slip to mask it a bit while they're actively throwing shots. Otherwise you'd be better off just doing it without forcing torque. If you can't throw your hooks within a narrow window, your level of ability should be telling you it might not be a good idea to throw leads quite yet. Not lead hooks anyway.
Edit: Also, if it feels more "natural" for you to pivot on your rear foot to throw your hook, you likely have too much weight on your front foot to begin with. Balance it out. Granted, I don't believe in pivoting on your lead foot for hooks anyway. More of a "yank" if anything (for lack of a better word).Last edited by BG_Knocc_Out; 09-02-2015, 10:40 AM.

From my experience you want to have your weight on your front foot and kind of turn your foot to the right (orthodox stance) before you throw and pivot on that foot. Stepping with a hook loses power on the shot. You're moving forward and the punch is coming from the side so you aren't getting your weight into it. As far as stepping making it a lead punch, all it takes to be a lead punch is your first punch thrown. Stepping has nothing to do with it. Hooks should be for inside fighting. If you are throwing it at distance it's a looping left not a hook. Hooks are tight and compact.
