What do you consider to be the fundamentals of boxing?

Who would you say is a fighter with great fundamentals?

    1. Know how to throw the 4 basic punches. (Jab, right hand, hook, uppercut.)

    2. Know how to defend against each of the 4 basic punches.

    3. Know how to step with your feet in order to move forwards, backwards, or to the sides.

    Joe Louis had terrific fundamentals.

A fighter with good fundamentals to me has...

A good stance, and relaxed fighting posture.

      Remembers to breathe while fighting

Stands at an angle from his opponent at all times

Good footwork(Always steps off the correct foot. Can quarter pivot, half pivot, drop step, etc... at the drop of a hat. Bounces only when necessary) and lateral movement(Has no problems pivoting or moving to his right, throwing the jab while moving to the right or ducking under to the left after throwing a left hook for example)

Understands moving his body and head or changing his angle up after punching

Remembers to punch and move at the same time

Remembers to keep the right hand up at all times

Before all of the punches and fancy upper body movement stuff this alone will pretty much guarantee at the least you won't look foolish.
