  • Lower opponent's work rate.

Say you have an opponent who has a high work rate. How do you lower it?

work the body and work in between his rythme. Ala Marquez/Pacquioa. Busting him in his nutz once or twice probably would not hurt either.

Good footwork, lateral movement and spacing.

As far as offense you want well timed authorative jabs to disrupt his flow and since he has good conditioning going to the body is a must.

As far as timing to use Khan as an example. High work rate, fast as hell hands, nice length, but if you watch him throw combos a lot of times its at the exact same cadence when he lets his hands go. 12345, 12345... Not e ven a 123-wait a split second longer 4-5 or anything that would disrupt his opponents sense of timing.

It's why(besides dropping his right hand) he can get timed by massive left hook like Danny Garcia's. If you can definitely observe the velocity he throws the punches at you .

In other words, Khan is predictable. He also got timed by Algieri.

Could another way be to counter him?

Depending on what kind of fighter he is it's possible, but you're gonna wanna counter him on the move and then immediately get out of the way. You can't afford to play the waiting game too much with them or else they'll beat you on pure activity

Would you say Khan is predictable?

To an extent. His punch selection isn't always the best, but luckily for him he has a great jab. If plan A of overwhelming them with speed, activity and combos doesn't work he can fall back to his jab and try to score points that way.

He's only one example though of a high work rate guy out of many. There's also guys like Margarito that aren't primarily head-hunters like Khan is. They throw a crap ton to the body and will break you down.

There's also guys like Pacman that throw a lot, are nice at counters and reading their opponents and actually have great punch variation and timing. It all just depends on what the guy is trying to do and what he's good at.

isnt the most direct and obvious answer POWER?
make your opponent respect your power and theyll be thinking twice before doing anything reckless..
i like to throw a powerful jab to make a statement when people come throwing wild lol
