  • What's a good way to recover from a sparring session?

Just started going back to the gym about 2 weeks ago. Today I got 2 rds sparring in. First time sparring in about a year and a half. I did okay for being out of the ring for as long as I've been. Got caught with a few hard shots though.

So my question is what should I do to recover after sparring? Just to make sure that my body is ready for next time. How much rest should I take? Should I ice my head a little bit? My head slightly hurts. Not real bad, but just enough to remind me that I was sparring today. When should I go back to the gym and when is the next time I can spar? I just don't want to get seriously injured. Thank you in advance.

    Hey,

My head would hurt quite a bit after sparring, where then I went to the doctors just to have a check up, the doctor explained the process quite well to me. Basically the head aches you get are from the snap of your neck, or your necks movement which move the brain within the skull which give you a mild concussion, which is basically a small bruise on your brain, this bruise can take up to a week (took a week for me) to get healed, make sure it doesn't happen too often, as the brain is a very vital organ within your body, to prepare myself for this I did not spar for 3 weeks, and I did quite a lot of neck exercises to strengthen those muscles for my next sparring session, this happened about 6 months ago and now when sparring I don't get any headaches at all, it helped a lot and I highly recommend it.

Sparring light regularly is a good thing. There's no point sparring heavy just to get beat up.
If maintance & personal gains, light sparring once a week is good.
If you're looking for a career & have good sparring partners that you trust, spar as much as possible.

Damn a whole week?? The worst I ever had was a headache for maybe 2 days. Then again, I only do 2 rds at a time and we're all amateurs at the gym. We're not too advanced. But yeah I know Mayweather does a lot of neck excercises, we use to do them for highschool football too. I'm gonna have to go back to that.

Yeah we don't go too heavy. Only 2 rds at a time. Once a week sounds right. At the gym, I think we usually do anywhere from 2 times a week to once every couple of weeks.
