  • Speed kills in amateur boxing.

You often here the phrase that timing beats speed but unless you have significantly huge power, it's hard to beat the fast slick fighters in the amateurs with head gear on. This is why guys like Khan in the amateurs were fantastic. Most fighters who win amateur competitions tend to be movers who use their speed and footwork. Do you agree with this sentiment?

I do agree but they are fighting without headgear now which should change the game.

Speed can kill mistakes. Fighting hard fast and aggressively is critical and can get you through most opponents. But skill and experience trump everything. Then conditioning

I'll take a smart, experienced fighter over a pure athlete any day. Not a shot fighter, that's a different story. But nothing trumps experience.

Power? The truth is most guys don't have one punch KO power. Those guys are very rare.

I say develop your conditioning and sharpen your skills though quality competition (which is what amateur boxing does a great job of.) Stay active constantly improve skills. Those guys are hard to beat.

Isn't that just the Olympics or most international tournaments?

Nationals in UK and Canada as well, so I'm assuming that's everybody.
