  • sparring rules?

I was sparring lightly with another dude who caught me with a gd shot. I responded by hitting him with a few straights so he doesn't try walking through ( weighs 25 more pounds then me). My coach gets angry saying stuff like it's not a street fight.......and apparently I get angry wen I get hit. what am I suppose to do in a sparring session after I get hit. Is there something wrong with hitting back after getting tagged in sparring?

    **** what he says.

There's only 1 rule to sparring: You get hit as hard as you dish it out.

As long as you weren't trying to tee off on homeboy, you were in the right.

That's just the way it goes. You throw a haymaker trying to take my block off, I guarantee you will be caught with a hard right in response.

Now trying some pacquiao sh.t after getting hit hard 1 time is another story. But if he hit you hard, it's only right to hit him hard back.

That kind of sounds what happened here.

It sounds like you were in a controlled sparring session, you got nailed with a good, perhaps unintentional hard shot and lost your cool by trying to take this guy's head off. I'd suggest next time keeping your defense tighter and staying calm. Your coach shouldn't be upset if you strategically retaliated after a hard shot, but I can see why he'd have a problem if you started becoming too aggressive in an agreed light sparring session.

I would look at it as an opportunity to learn how to deal with people that don't stop coming forward. Getting it is fine in sparring. Its how you learn

Ye thanks for the responses, I'm gonna try to move around a little more and not throw a lot of straight rights

Focus is the key, if the session is supposed to be "controlled" and someone slips up for the..................... first time, it's ok! It's not a fight and **** happens but theres nothing wrong with talking to your trainer after the work is done. If someone loads up in a controled session my guess is their not very experienced. However if it were my session the fighter who loaded up would be out of the ring quickly for not following my instruction. The disicpline is not yours to give it's the trainers. If he doesn't feel it's appropreciate then he's not very experienced in setting the rules.

Every time you enter a gym you should learn atleast one thing you never knew!

I get annoyed at guys who load up hard and afterwards "We good right bruh? I was only going 30%". This would be the guy that once he gets me on the ropes digs like a shovel to the body. It's weird cuz when you do hit back it's almost like they're surprised "woahh you're not suppose to do that" look. Experienced amateur fighters with say handful of bouts we're talking here.

Your coach is correct, because have you ever seen someone throw several straight rights after getting hurt in a professional boxing match? It sounds like you were stunned and threw back sloppily. You may not think it was sloppy, but you probably looked sloppy, hence the comment.

Clinch, move away, or use your defence. If you fire back, then use proper combinations and intelligent boxing. If you're too new to do that - tell your coach you were rocked and you'll improve next time.

I often do light sparring with guys i know who can control how hard they throw. Sometimes i or they slip up and throw unnecisarily hard punch. If you know this was unintentional then just apologize with quick word or sign to dont interupt action and continue spar. If it was intentional then you can hit back hard or tell coach **** this guy he dont know to train like we agreed.

I often find when I'm landing nice shots on my opponents they will start to put more on they're shots....it's quite annoying as I'm very aware and don't retaliate.....

It's an ego thing I find.....Experience is key
