  • Everybody should use a foam roller/massage device...

This device is just amazing, one of the smartest purchases I've ever made. A foam roller is basically a dense foam tube, all you have to do is roll your body on it and it provides a deep tissue massage. You don't even have to use a foam roller, you can use a tennis ball, a lacrosse ball, or even a pvc pipe to make your foam roller.

The key is finding your trigger points, the knots in your back, legs, wherever. Find that painful spot, lay on it for 20 secs, it'll hurt like a m'fer, after about 20 secs that knot gives out, start rolling over it, you feel euphoria after that sudden relief of pain.

It increases blood flow, resets the muscle, allows you to recover much faster and work out more often, you can use it on sore feet from work, whatever, works great.

Buy one for like $30 at any sporting goods store, the denser the better, or just make one from a cheap PVC pipe, not nearly as comfortable, but does the job. You can even use tennis balls, the key is finding that tender spot, holding it, then roll it out.

Just used it on my sore hamstring which had several knots, sudden relief from that pain felt so damn good. Most physical therapy places use them, this isn't some gimmick, thing truly works for most people with any sort of muscular pain, even from injuries.

Sounds interesting. I hear it's very painful.

Is it difficult to find the knots?

Nope, once u feel the pain. That's the 'knot'
Work it for a minute (will be fu**ing agony) and like TS says, you'll feel the release.

Foam roller is actually for fascias
The fascias is the membrane that keeps your muscles together and tightens up which causes injury. Foam roller helps fascias release

I use a foam roller every day. Best $20 I've ever spent. Also, a lacrosse ball is good for getting knots out of your back when a roller can't reach it.

The knots are very easy to find, it's basically the spot that hurts really bad, you'll be able to feel it when you're rolling over them.

You find that painful spot on your legs, back, wherever it is, lay on it, your muscle will be fighting for like 10 secs, that's the painful part. Then your muscle relaxes, you feel a release of the tension and ache, it hurts but feels so good. Eventually you start to get used to the pain. You pretty much have to make that knot your bytch.

Sore muscles are the worst though, those can hurt so damn bad, but it's worth it for the recovery. Faster you recover, less time you're sore, the faster you can get back to the gym. Also increases the flexibility of sore muscles and muscles in general, don't feel nearly as stiff.

Good advice. If you can't afford or don't have access to a massage therapist, this is a good alternative. If you're training hard and not doing any form of massage for recovery, you are a silly person.
