  • Left guard goes down

I have this tendency of putting my left guard down after making punches. Do you have any tips or any specific training to make my shoulders stronger or increase its endurance? It gets tired really quick compared to my right (which is my dominant arm). Thanks in advance!

Shadow box in the mirror alot. Keeping mindful of your openings.

Big thing is also keeping your chin tucked. And the angle you are presenting to the opponent cause you don't want to square up.

Have you been taught to "finish" after your last punch thrown?

If you finish with a right hand you should be rolling under off the punch back to the rightside. The hook has you rolling under back to the left side.
A good practice is to leave the opponent with a finishing jab if you want to return to the outside (distance).

The roll under techniques are practiced with a rope set up from corner to corner or if no ring is avalible run a rope shoulder high and bend your knees and waist slipping to the left then the right. You need to get your steps in order and your balance correct. This is not an easy Technique.

Okay thanks for this! Do you prefer using light weights while shadow boxing?

Is this the drill that Sergio Martinez does a lot in his training videos? But in his case its like a spider web because the ropes are all over the ring. I used to do this drill. I think should do this again to improve my defense. Thanks a lot!

Something that worked for me was to actually focus on my guard rather than my punches. Just forget about placement, power, etc. for a second and just think of your guard. Look at it for all I care, but forget about your punching for a second.

Why hold weights when you are practicing technique. I don't get it.

If you need some weight put on a pair of bag gloves while you shadow box.

Exactly what I'm doing now! Defense first. Haha. Thanks!
