  • How to get hit less from the straight?

What can I do to avoid this punch?

  • #2
head movement, lateral movement, high guard, using your jab consistently to at the very least offset and keep an opponent's mind occupied.

Put your head down and windmill.

Is it from taller opponents specifically? I can't answer from a shorter fighters point of view if it is but this is what gets me all the time (I'm 6'4). Whenever I'm jabbing or throwing straights, whether they're power shots or not I always expect to receive body shots. Head movement is good, but you really want to focus on stepping IN as well as to the side, that way whenever they throw a straight you can rattle off a few body shots.

Edit: The closer you get the less straights you'll take.

Instead of leaning back,do it to your left or right.

Keeping a left a bit higher in the left-upper quadrant. Just manage your distance well because if you compensate to offset one punch from your opponent, it'll open a new one. In this case straight to the body.. but it does leave a good window of opportunity for yourself.
