  • Training Programs of Champions

hey all...thought that this might be of interest...they are copied right out of gary todd's great book 'Boxing's Greatest Workouts' and basically outline the training of some of today and yesterdays greats...ill start off with ricky hatton's workout, since he's fairly popular but his training program might still be unknown...lemme know if ya like and ill post more!

    Rick Hatton's Training Program

Monday to Friday (only roadwork on weekends)
    Gets up at 9
    Full stretch and Warm-up
    5-6 Mile Run (at 7pm)
Eats cereal, toast and a cup of tea for breakfast
On day of fight, goes to local cafe for sausages, eggs, bacon and toast
Eats Chicken, pasta, and lots of vegies for dinner, along with water and vitamins
    Goes to bed at 10

Usually goes to the gym at 12:30 and leaves at 3:30

    Warm Up -10 mins stretchin
    Shadow boxing -3x3 min rounds
    Skipping -10mins non stop
Body Belt -4 to 12x3 min rounds (depending on stage of camp)
He does this exercise with his trainer. Trainer wears 6-inch padded vest
and focus pads. They continuously throw shots at eachother. He does floor
work on alternate days (speed, heavy bags, etc.)

Bag Bar -4x3 min rounds (1 min rest between rounds)
Uses two pieces of equipment for this exercise: heave bag and 'bar' - a
heavy steel box channel with steel tripod legs at each end. The bar is almost
waist high off the ground, and he starts by jumping over the bar from side
to side for 1 min, then goes to the heavy bag and punches for another min,
then back to the bar for another min. He then rests for a min and starts
    over.

    Stretch down -10 mins

Ricky also has a last, intense session of training camp on week before the fight. He always does 15x3 min rounds on the body belt. He says its a confidence boost for him, as, when he's done, he knows he is ready to fight everyone.

hope this was useful/enjoyable, lemme know if you want more!

Very good book indeed... I actually find Kostya Tszyu's program interesting, two pages long outlining his workouts...

Kostya does this program to build up his strength before he moves on to the conventional boxing training (bag work, speedball, focus pads, and sparring).

Swing arms up and down, alternating for 1 minute
Bend knees and touch floor with fingers
    PUSH UPS
    50 on knuckles
    PULL UPS
10 using close grip (30 second break)
    SKIPPING
20 minutes at moderate pace (1 minute break)
    PULL UPS
    4 X 10 (30 second rest after each set)
    DUMBBELLS
4 X 1 Minute rounds on alternating dumbbell curls (30 second break after each round then 1 minute break at the end)
    BARBELS
4 X 15 curls (same rest rate as above)
    BARBELL DISC
3 X 20 Lifts (30 second break after each set then 1 minute break at end)
Pull disc up to your chest with both hands and let it fall back to your thighs
    BENCH PRESS
    70 reps at 35kg
    NECK TWISTS AND ROTATIONS
    LEG RAISES
    1 minute
    LEG RAISES

I think Gary Todd posted a complaint to boxing scene when some other poster pasted some of the workouts in his book so be careful

Can't really explain the Tennis Ball, you have buy the book... like someone say about Gary Todd complaining to Boxingscene about posting these workouts... so I will say no more.

I'm going to post a pro MMA workout and see what your opinions are... I'll give you a run down..

The guy was on his back for 3hrs try to block, avoid and catch punches from the guy on top of him, when he finally squirmed out of position and reversed it(so he was on top other guy was on the botton) they would stop the drill and start again, putting the first guy back on the bottom..
confusing, but if you were to watch it I think it would shock you the way it shocked me..

I'll do the full time line wanna see what you guys think.
