  • Need opinions on if I should get into the sport

    I'm a junior in highschool. I play football and I workout 5 times a week. I'm 5'8 and 175. I have come to the realization that im not going to get a lot of playing time my senior year. I'm second string and re starter has about 4 inches on me. No matter how much I train I still won't start so I'm thinking about starting to box. There's a gym right by my house and I've checked it out. I was wondering if my squaty build would be a huge disadvantage. I have researched a little on classes and I would be in a class where I would be the shortest. I could easily lose 5 pounds or maybe 10 but I'm wondering if it is worth it. I have always been interested and I have a reflex bag (I think that's what it's called, the bag in a pile that swings back at you) and I have been using it a lot and have gotten comfortable using it.
    Basically I'm wondering if I should go through with boxing despite my height/weight ratio or stick to a few plays a game in football. I have long arms for my height so there's that and I see myself as pretty fit. All insight is welcome and needed. Thanks

    Go train a few times and if you like it, do it. Forget this height to weight ratio jive. If you put in the time you'll figure out how to make whatever size you're at work for you and if after many months of training you want to compete at x or y weight class you'll make a plan with your coach and change weight accordingly.
