  • Getting 2 distinct feelings from 2 different cues whats going on here?

A cue btw is like "putting a cigarette out" is an idea to help you get a technique down.

    So anyway.....

Cue one is turn the heel out, this gives me a really fast really explosive punch, unfortunately it doesn't feel that heavy.

Cue two, is pretend there is a fist on the side of your hip and try to punch with it. This gives me a slower but much heavier punch with a loud crack and noticeable feelings of heaviness.

This is really odd because im doing the same technique its the bog standard foot pivot everyone is taught but these two different cues are giving me two odd results and I don't know how to progress from here.

Any advice as to why this is happening and what to do to progress?

      This.

Once you understand this Alex, you will really understand how to generate power.

Glutes and Hamstrings of the opposite leg to the hand that is being thrown ...

I do understand this and thanks for sharing you two. But this is for the leg of the same hand that's being thrown. Im not trying to be just powerful Im trying to be optimally powerful, I can do the opposite leg easy it was much easier to learn, its the same leg that is far more difficult for me and that's what this question is asking about. Thanks for the advanced info though guys I appreciate the generosity!

I would still like to know how to use the same leg/hip as the arm being thrown optimally and I have not mastered that yet and Ive reached this annoying point where I don't know what to do next. Or how to do it right.

            Ok Rockin.

You have cues to get the hips workin.

The most famous being "put the ciggerette out with your foot"

Im using two other cues and both of them give me different results, one is extremely fast but not very heavy, the other is extremely heavy but not very fast.

(the mental cues are: 1) turn the heel out, and 2) punch with the side of your hip as if there was a fist on it)

Now im not sure what to do or whats going on.

Ideally my punch should be extremely fast and extremely heavy right?

I think you just cracked it Rockin, I may have been fudging up the 1st cue by breaking the sequence order, instead of "rolling out the carpet" (something that insidiously creeps in for me don't even realise im doing it) going to practice today and will let you guys know for sure but I just punched in the air and my punches feel explosive fast AND heavy, well done rockin! That's some exquisite coaching you just did!

Will test it today full power on my bag when my niebours are awake and will report back here.
