  • Downside to throwing the jab too much?

I love the jab - it's my 'bread 'n butter' punch. It's a weapon, a range-finder, a defensive tool and it sets up my other punches. I practice this punch often; I can snap it, throw it at different speeds, I target different area e.g. head, mid section. OK, you get ****in' point

Question: when you're sparring or in a real boxing match is there any downside to throwing the jab too much? I don't do a lot of sparring so I can't really tell if there is, or not.

As long as your using the jab to set up other punches, mix in feints also. Commit to jabbing to the body early and anytime you feint that punch I promise they will drop there gaurd and leave the chin open open Ali did it, Shane Moseley used it to catch Floyd early but then again what do I know LOL.

Anytime you get predictable you'll get countered.

My first amateur fight I only threw jabs and won on points.

Arm might get tired, lazy jabs are easy to counter.

Throw the jab to much and you're opponent might level off your jab.
