  • Pep trained Judo in prep for Saddler

Pep was in this era it seems was outside the box. Pep added Judo to his fight prep knowing Saddler liked to clinch and work.

Anyone else know any outside the box training methods that are being used and probably would get ridiculed in this era?

Think I have seen some cool drills for Rigo, Porter, GGG...Pedro Diaz seems to drill. Post some vids

Where did you read that? I never heard that before and I knew Pep my entire life.

I would think wrestling would make more sense for clinching. Judo would not help him and like Ray I'm curious to hear where you heard this?

When you get a chance, watch the video. The announcer says he did judo in prep for this fight.

I don't think the training would be meant to transfer over to boxing literally, probably just in theory.

I trained judo for 7 years before I got into boxing. like boxing, it's focused on breaking your opponents balance.

I can see why, especially when he used the leg trick he used against saddler, that's a judo type trick no? To trip up your opponent with your leg etc etc and in this case clinch on. Pep was the man

It's not surprising because Saddler was such a vicious, aggressive and dirty fighter that wanted to make every bout an in-the-trenches dog fight.
