I've had twenty amateur fights training three times per week, since I am in school and everything. If you are in the gym for two hours, working hard for these three times, it actually should be enough. More might be a bit better, but it should do. On your off days you should be lifting weights, doing roadwork, cardio, etc. If you put in 10 really good hours a week in total, everthing included, you can fight as an amateur.

I train to improve myself technically in boxing 3 days a week and the other days are spent resting and doing strength training and cardio work. It is sufficient to start with and then maybe buy sum boxing equipment so you can box while the gym isnt open. 3 days a week is sufficient for now to get you up to scratch.

the closest gym from my house is an hour drive away...so im looking at atleast 2 hours roundtrip for just the commute..do you think I should just train at home or get to the gym atleast 3 times a week? btw, im training just to get in great shape and build confidence..maybe considering amateur matches in the future, but im still pretty much a beginnner...

3 times a week is plenty of time. I go 3 times a week for 2 hours each time plus the 15 minute run i do to get there. Plus I usually go another 2 25 minutes runs each week and play football (thats soccer) either two or three times a week.
