Well if you watched the whole video, the guy said something about the amateur system rules that were bad for pro boxers.. And he did have 12 amateur fights tho.. I guess he just going full out for pro boxing.. The kid is nice tho

There is absolutely no good reason to prevent a young boxer from competing as an amateur.

They could have trained exactly the same, with the exact same goal in mind i.e. to be a good pro, and put into practice what they have been working on in training, in a competitive situation. They may have lost a few bouts, but he would be a much better boxer now if he had had 80+ amateur bouts against the best in England.

He may not have the same hype (because he would have lost some bouts), but he would be a better fighter.

That's true but they fight a ton as pros even if it's a lot of cab drivers. Might be hard for someone to justify if he's signed to TMT though getting exposure for 40+ cab drivers lol. Though if they just brought him along quietly at first they could go the "mexican" route.

But it's also understated with a lot of Mexican fighters their lack of "amateur" fights. They don't often fight hundreds of times but some do grow up competing for a long time as kids and then maybe getting a few dozen amateur fights and going pro young and getting their experience for pay for 6-7 years before hitting the world scene.

1. Mexican fighters normally come up fighting tons of bums...which is another way to develop your craft in a lower risk way.

2. There isn't as much nuance in the Typical Mexican style of fighting. They rely heavily on toughness, great conditioning, a solid chin and a basic style of defense. Doesn't take as much experience to develop that style of craft.

At 1. Depends where you are in Mexico, Mexico is probably the toughest place to come up the ranks because of the amount of fighters there are and the love the Mexican people have for boxing. You can some what pad your record in the north, but in the south i.e. mexico city you most definitely can't.

2. 100% agree with you, they rely on toughness and conditioning until they eventually learn their trade, also a lot of people don't know this but a Mexicans record isn't that just on boxrec - they have tonnes of fights and a lot of time the records on boxrec aren't their actual records, for instance I know a guy who is listed as 1-0, but is 4-0. Mexicans are just bad asses, good luck to this guy he's going to need it greatly, see how his chin, composure, will, etc everything that's tested in a fight holds up, his skills are ok. But in reply to the post, he got the contract most probably like the majority of TMT fighters...through kissing floyds and ellerbes ass. Notice all of his fighters are from vegas and train in the vegas gym, so imagine if your gym buddy was the richest man in sport and had a promotions label, hes bound to sign you. that's why a lot of TMT fighters aint ****.
