  • Good defensive drills?

I just started sparring, and I find myself getting irritated by jabs more than anything.

Any good defense drills? I hit the double end bag, work my footwork and head movement while hitting the heavy bag but nothing prepares you for game speed. I don't feel like shadow boxing helps except for working on form and extending your punches. Everyone believes they are the shyt in their heads and can dodge and block every punch. I know you're going to get touched regardless, but I feel naked defensively. Still trying not to fall away when someone is attacking. And work my head movement that I've practiced.

Ironically shadow boxing can be very useful for defense. You've sparred someone, just imagine shadow boxing your partner. Depending on the stance parrying and catching jabs is very useful. I'm southpaw and I'll admit I should have started trying to catch or parry earlier. But moving those feet can be the best defense. But also shadow boxing is good for maintaining form like you say. Keep your backhand glued to your chin

The maize ball is really good for practicing head movement. And you don't have to go out and buy one if you don't want to, you can rig your own setup at home.
