    Good post.

I also consume carbs the day before a major grueling workout.

Lets define carbs here. Are we discussing white bread loaded with refined sugar and preservatives, or a bowl of brown rice? What you eat matters, if anyone thinks weight loss is only about a calorie deficit, please go on a straight McDonald's diet and see how you look/feel in a year.

We are talking about a diet of only snicker bars and donuts

Caloric deficit is the only thing that influences weight loss and there's plenty of facts to back it up. Here's a link to a professor of nutrition who proved this point by losing weight only eating junk food. Just go and ask any registered dietitian how to lose weight and the first thing they'll say is caloric deficit.

The type of food you eat can effect your health and physical conditioning but weight loss and gain is purely about calories. Anything else is just pseudoscience.

I agree with this post. It is proven completely as you said. And all other dietry techniques are nothing but pseudoscience and more often than not have adverse health or energy effects.

There is no problem with carbs as an energy source when it comes to weight loss and in fact it's better than an equivalent amount of calories in the form of fat or protein! That's right, carbs are the best source of energy for your body to use always!

You only need enough protein for repair and growth etc etc and that's it. Your body can only burn fat completely in the presence of carbs anyway. If you restrict your carbs to low levels, your body MUST MAKE THEM regardless in order to burn fat to make energy (in fact your brain can ONLY use carbs for energy!) The body does this by transforming protein in your liver into a carbs (glucogenesis). This sounds fine but even if you consume enough protein that your not taxing your muscle system for the protein, the process still produces toxic ammonium compounds that must be processed by your liver and eliminated by your kidneys which stress these organs. A low carb diet also depletes your muscle glycogen stores leading to lethargy.

In Canada, the low carb diet is shunned and it is illegal to even label foods as "low carb" for these reasons. Most athletes understand this and actually employ a "carbo loading" diet, the opposite of what fad dieters do! There are a few examples of successful athletes who use low carb regimes but then again there are some smokers who are pro athletes too

I'm not suggesting one eats a tonne of pasta if they are trying to cut weight. The calories must be restricted. OF course you need to eat the required protein and minimal fat required for health first. Then the rest can be made up of carb rich food. Vegetables and fruit are carb foods too and since they are packed with more vitamins and minerals would feature first on the menu before grain foods. So if your going for a calorie defecit there might be not much room for many grain foods anyway. But labelling carbs as BAD for weight loss is a misnomer.

Cut out the margarine first... Obviously! Lowering your fat is far more important because then your body will use the carbs to burn the body fat (the way the food pyramid was supposed to work!)

It has been chemically proven 100 calories of protein fills you up more than 100 calories of carbs or fat

Considering there has yet to be a right answer, I'd do some thorough Google work on your own rather than asking a forum. There's also research showing that multivitamins provide no health benefit if you really want to believe all of the "medical facts" put out there.

What's your point? Even if it's true that doesn't refute anything I've said. Here's a scientific study that shows a low carb diet with calorie reduction is no more effective than calorie reduction. The only difference between the two was that a ketogenic diet had adverse metabolic and emotional effects.
