I was wondering how much other people incorporate flat bench, dumbell press and dips into their training?
I'm about 147lbs .. I dumbell press up to 95lbs/8 reps ,and flatbench a max at 285lbs and do 60 dips per set. The more i've readjusted my training for boxing I decided to bring my flatbench max down to 265lbs but usually don't like to rep over 225lbs because anything over that will cause my muscles to stay too tight when sparing or doing bag work.
I've found that too much on the flatbench can decrease the power of punches because the muscles stay too tight and can inhibit movement , but benching at 225lbs (verses always going up to 285) feels better for power and movement. I know it's still 'heavy' by pound for my weight , but was wondering how other people incorporate this into their workout?
Flat dumbell press definitely increases power in punches from what i've noticed and I actually prefer that over flatbench because it works more muscles in your arms, chest and shoulders at once..
I know it's not strength that makes you a good boxer, it's technique .. 90% mental and 10% physical . but the physical requires 100% of your body to be on point ..
