I find when I throw punches, I can be a little loose with my core, and only focus on actually throwing my punches. I sometimes have to consciously keep my core tight when I throw punches. My question is, should i always keep my core tight? Even when throwing punches? I feel like I get winded faster when I throw punches while I keep my core super tight. Even when just moving around the ring? Even when I only have my hands up? When should I keep my core tight?

I tend to tighten my body during the movement of the punch and try to be pretty loose and aware enough throught to keep tight when needed and loose when not.
Like the above said, breathe through your nose. Slow and deliberate. Stay calm.

i ask this, because when i throw really hard shots, and keep my core super tight, i get winded a lot quicker.

i find it nearly impossible to throw a punch without tightening my core... at least for a brief moment lol
as for WHEN to tighten ur core..
for me (and has worked well so far for a year)
is:
1. start loose, relaxed, breathe as you would taking a walk in a park.
2. when you initiate/punch tighten.
3. when you're on the defense, tighten when the punches come (and a bit more if you sense a feint/punches being doubled up)
i think you'll get the hang of it from experience

Likewise for a punch if you tighten too soon. It's a sign/tell. Keep your breathing in cadence throughout your own ounching rhythm, etc . Din't overcommit thats probably why you get winded. *Bad* technique or nerves. It comes with time being fit isnt the only thing.
