  • Help! I'm an modern boxer fighting againt the philly shell

next month I have a boxing match against a boxer whose stance is more narrow than Mayweather. The advantage for him is that he throws a lot of body shots combos are 1,2,5,6 - how do I defend against these body shots?

If you know what's coming it would be easy to block the headshots and then counter the first body punch by blocking it while throwing a left hook to the head.

What about the second body shot? Wouldn't I get hit before I could get the hook off?

Dude it sounds like you don't know what your talking about and have no experience. I could almost bet all you want to know is a blue print on how to fight Floyd. There's no big secret on how to cracked the Philly shel.

Why dont you ask your coach? Has he never seen any of his fighters come against this style before?

I could actually share some insight, but first accept that the philly shell isn't "old" or outdated for you to refer to another style as modern, and two, find yourelf a trainer, you defend against shots by blocking, you learn to block in a gym, not on a forum. How do you defend the 5 and 6? Geez kid seriously? And you say you have been in a gym? Give me a break.

The best way is to give him angles and learn a few moves such as getting out of range if u have quick feet. If you dont jab and clinch Or jab and dont come straight forward with ur body squared to him. If u have a gd jab u shld be fine ,it will usually make him head hunt u. U need to work on alot of things doe if u dont know how to defend against body shots especially if ur scared of somebody hitting u with 5 or 6 bodyshots.

believe it or not most of the coaches where I live have no boxing experience save coaching; it's true. The positioning of the head is what I ment by modern
yes it's my first fight. see sugarboxing.com Boxing Technique: Foundations

Would any of you throw a 1,2,5,6 combo?
