  • Running on treadmill

    Okay I'm running an hour on the treadmill at 8mph, so I was wondering how many miles was I really running I know it says 8miles but they say the treadmill is tricky because its not a pavement...

          The difference is that on pavement you have to project your body forward whereas on a treadmill you are really only counter-stepping the backward motion of the treadmill. You don't actually carry your body weight nearly as much because the motion of the treadmill brings your lead foot backwards...by contrast on pavement you would have to lift and carry your body weight forward...so it's harder/more work.

          I'm going to guess and say probably 1/2 the distance the treadmill is telling you that you ran.
