  • First amateur fight, Bruised Rib question and back story.

I had my first amateur fight like 3 weeks ago, there's a really dumb back story. Originally I wasn't going to fight because the dude I was supposed to fight cancelled and the gym that held the event couldn't get a 135 lb guy, I still went because my brother fought. Anyway we drive for a while and once we're there there's this dude that they claim he's around 75kg (looking back he was probably a bit heavier) waiting to fight but everyone there is smaller than featherweight (god forsaken part of mexico would explain their weight and size lol) He's a bit shorter than me and he's fat so I tell my coach he how about we fight him and he asked me if I felt like it and I said sure he can't be that good.

They say if I want to it's fine, they let me borrow some ****ed up gloves and a pair of shorts and I go in (with my normal tennis shoes ) not really expecting much of it since I had been sparring a bit the previous weeks and felt ok i was just like 138 lbs so I still had good condition. Anyway we start and I feel he's a bit slow but as soon as he hits even the guard I panic because holy **** he hits too damn hard. Next thing I know I'm overthinking and pulling my punches because I don't want to get caught. I forget my lateral movement and I would also panic as he charged. He hit me ONCE good on the ribs and now they 're bruised. Needless to say I lost because I wasn't all that active I think. I didn't really get my ass beat that bad but his weight and power really bothered me.

A question for you guys, I feel better now but there's still pain when I sneeze it hurts a lot, should I completely stop going to the gym? or do these injuries drag for a bit. I can do most of my workouts but sprinting skipping leads to some pain.

Here's the video, excuse the awful camera man and the spanish gibber jabber,
Also some pointers given the scenario as this was my first fight thanks guys.

guy was definitely bigger than 75KG(165lb) LOL. Maybe like 185lb at least.

Probably, although he was small. We look a little bigger there because the ring was tiny. I'm 5'8 he was mabe two inches shorter so 185 is a bit too much

He just punched hard as fuck! I guess lack of experience. I watch it and I think of so many thigs I could have done but I couldn't focus.

I bruised a rib a few years back sparring a guy who outweighed me a lot. I took a few weeks off cause i figured it would be bad if someone hit me there again while it healed.

I think you really need to work on the basics and fundamentals before you get back in there. How long had you been training?

6 months, I did fine in sparring but I had never been in there with someone bigger specially not with a guy that hit so hard, I wasn't prepared for it so I fought doubting every punch I threw.

I'm not dissapointed or anything I box because it's somethign that I found a love for. I like to continue learning and everytime I train I'd like to improve a little so I know I still have a long way to go, what are some things I do bad?

Did it take a while to heal? For me it's been almost three weeks and the pain hasn't gotten to the point it was the first few days but it still hurts a bit to sleep on my side and when I sneeze. I can do most of my daily routine but I can't skip for more than 2 rounds or it begins to hurt then I feel some pain while punching so my workout turns to ****. Running short distances is fine but I can't sprint, I guess I'll take a week completly off in order to give it a proper rest.

Can't remeber the exact amount of time it took but i think it was a few weeks. I also got a crack in a rib once and that took a lot more time, like three months or something. The bruised rib took a lot less time but better to rest a week or two to much then taking the risk of aggravating the injury.
